In perusing the many facets of any product on today's market, the consumer will surely be faced with knowing and understanding the many rating issues that denote how it is rated. Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) will be listed as a number to tell the buyer how efficiently this air source heat pump will operate over an entire season. The consumer will expect that the higher the number, the less money that will be drawn from the energy budget. Additionally, Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) is another rating which falls into the higher outside temperature category of close to 100 degrees. Again, the higher the rating number, the more efficient the operating costs will be. While the previous two rating systems are focused on the cooling aspects, the Heat Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) deals solely with the efficiency as it pertains to heating function. The higher number will tell the story.

The basic premise of the greening of our planet is to make better use of those things that we already have which applies to all of the natural resources that are readily available. The air source heat pump energy system is among the most popular chosen for use for those climates that are on the milder side. However, as manufacturers focus on the urgent need for more efficiency in their products, new technology is bringing to market those units that can stand the test even in the more extreme climates. The consumer is seeking those heat/cooling systems which provide the desired comfort level within the residence at the lowest energy costs.So how does this pump work? It might simply be called a transfer system as it moves air in between spaces...inside and outside. During the summer months when cooling the home is top priority, the air source heat pump takes the warmer inside air and takes it to the outside where it is cooled by the refrigerant fluid and returned as cool air to the inside. In extreme climates, there will often be a back-up system that provides additional energy sources, gas in areas where it is available to supplement the system.
