Bottled water - Yes, it looks really pure and natural with all of the beautifully illustrated pictures of natural, free-flowing streams and water falls. However, don't be deceived because bottled water is not regulated by the EPA. Instead it is regulated by the FDA as a food. This gives bottled water companies a free pass. How? Well, for starters about 25% of bottled water comes straight from municipal water systems. Moreover, because bottled water is not regulated by the city, it is subject to less rigorous testing and held to less strict EPA regulatory standards.

Filtered water - Regarding the purity of filtered water, it really depends on your water filtration system. All are definitely not treated equal. There are some which simply remove odor and others that don't do any purifying and only improve tastes. Meanwhile, there are others of a much higher quality that do an excellent job of removing even the smallest microorganism. That said, water filtration systems can provide a very good source of water depending on the quality of the system so take care to do your market research and choose wisely.

Distilled water - Distilled water is water that has been purified through boiling. It is boiled to the point that impurities are separated from the water to become vapor or steam. As such, in the distillation process all the bacteria, contaminants and debris are removed from the water. Suffice it to say, that compared to the others listed, distilled water is probably the cleanest alternative. However, though the cleanest, distilled water may not necessarily be the healthiest. Why? Well, along with the bacteria, contaminants and such, the distillation process can also result in a loss of essential electrolytes that the body needs. Thus, distilled water should not be consumed on a daily basis or used as a primary source of drinking water.
