For example, during the summer, the heat pump split system will move the heat from your house into the outdoors, leaving cooler air in the house.  When the heat pump is bringing warm air into the house in the winter, you may use solar heat or heat from the ground, also called geothermal heat.  Because the temperature underground stays more stable, geothermal heat is ideal for your heating and cooling needs.  In the summer, the ground is cool, allowing you to cool your home for a fraction of the cost of a traditional air conditioner.  In the winter, the ground retains heat from the summer and you can heat your home for less than what you would pay for a heating system that needs to generate the heat that is pumped through the system.
